What’s the hazard
The plastic of the cable has an excessive concentration of bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs). Measured values were up to 3.94%, 2.06% and 0.19% by weight, respectively.
DEHP and DBP pose a risk to human health and the environment. SCCPs persist in the environment, are toxic to aquatic organisms at low concentrations and bio-accumulate in wildlife and humans. Prolonged exposure to them through the skin may cause cancer.
The product does not comply with the RoHS 2 Directive on the restriction of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, nor with the Persistent Organic Pollutants (POP) Regulation. The alert rates it as a serious risk.
